About this winery

Founded in 1879 by the brothers Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asua, the Compañia Vinicola del Norte de España is one of the oldest estates in La Rioja. C.V.N.E. is located in Haro, in the traditional wine trade district, next to the train station. In this period when transport was not very advanced, there was a definite advantage in locating your cellar very close to a train station! By 1900, this company had more than 80,000 bottles intended for prolonged aging, which was rare at that time...

Product notes

Virgen del Galir is a Galician project that has belonged to CVNE since 2018 and focuses on the recovery of very special micro-plots on the edge of the Camino de Santiago, specifically in the town of entoma, in Valdeorras. This means that they produce fresh and very mineral wines with character. Maruxa Godello is a wine named after the mother of the founder of the winery.

Production notes

Maruxa Godello comes from a vineyard with loamy clay soils with some slate and other minerals. These vines extend over hillsides at an altitude of more than 600 meters and benefit from a continental climate with a strong Atlantic influence. When the grapes reach their optimum maturity, they are harvested manually in 15 kg crates. The wine ages for 4 months on fine lees in stainless steel vats.

Tasting notes

White wine with aromas of ripe white fruits, notes of garrigue and mineral touches. On the palate, it is intense, typical of the variety and very balanced. A wine with brilliant acidity and a long, pleasant finish. Pairings with fish, tapas and seafood.
