Vina Real Rioja Barrel Fermented
2020
Founded in 1879 by the brothers Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asua, the Compañia Vinicola del Norte de España is one of the oldest estates in La Rioja. C.V.N.E. is located in Haro, in the traditional wine trade district, next to the train station. In this period when transport was not very advanced, there was a definite advantage in locating your cellar very close to a train station! By 1900, this company had more than 80,000 bottles intended for prolonged aging, which was rare at that time...

Viura grapes come from 20-year-old vineyards located in different parts of Rioja Alavesa, Elciego and Laguardia, grown on trellised and trellised vines in cool, chalky soils.
Manual harvest. In the winery, the grapes are kept at 10 ºC and macerated with their skins on for 12 hours. The drained must is then used to produce the wine, fermented in Hungarian oak barrels of different capacities and ages (1-3 years).
A white wine full of flavor – aromatic peach, pear and apple with hints of spice and vanilla. On the palate, fresh fruit is at the fore with a balanced silky mid-palate and a long, fresh finish. Pairings with chicken breast and veal chop.

The very fresh and fruit-driven 2020 Viña Real Barrel Fermented has notes of green apples and a fresh palate with a medium body and contained ripeness and alcohol (13.2%). It has an austere feeling on the palate, where I found good freshness, and a dry finish, and the barrel is a little more noticeable but still subtle. This matured in barrel for five months.
