About this winery

André-Michel Pierlot moved to Tours-sur-Marne in 1812 as a Champagne wine merchant. It was in the village, on the plots called Les Plaisances and La Tour Glorieux that he founded what would become Maison Laurent-Perrier. His son Alphonse will succeed him, but the latter having no descendants, he will pass the estate on to his cellar master Eugène Laurent. When Eugène Laurent died prematurely in 1887, his widow, Mathilde Émilie Perrier took over the reins of the company and added his...

Product notes

Grand Siècle is a Prestige Cuvée different from the others, a unique concept. It is the only Cuvée de Prestige in Champagne which is based on the blend and not on the vintage. Laurent-Perrier takes the requirement of blending even further and believes that it is possible to recreate the perfect oenological year, one that would bring together the ideal balance between its different organoleptic components.

Production notes

Grand Siècle Nº24 is made from a choice of 11 of the 17 Grands Crus of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Blend of the 2007, 2006 and 2004 vintage years. Aging: 12 years.

Tasting notes

Sparkling spring yellow color with a fine effervescence that feeds a delicate and persistent bead of bubbles. An intense nose of fresh citrus fruit followed by subtle aromas of butter and acacia honey. The wine offers a fresh and aromatic attack with citrus notes. The finish is persistent, Grand Siècle offers a perfect balance between tension and depth. Pairings with scallops, oysters, caviar, lobster, foie gras and truffles.

The NV Brut Grande Cuvée Grand Siècle No. 24 is ethereal and beautifully lifted. White flowers, mint, white pepper and green orchard fruit all grace this exquisite, super-expressive Champagne. I would cellar the No. 24, as it is pretty tight today and also not ready to deliver the full Grand Siècle experience. The blend is 2007 (60%), 2006 (20%) and 2004 (20%), three vintages that are especially complementary. Disgorged May 27, 2019. (Originally published in August 2020)

Tasted from magnum, a format that won't come to market for another year or two, Laurent-Perrier's NV Brut Grand Siècle #24 is a blend of the 2007, 2006 and 2004 vintages. Wafting from the glass with a lovely bouquet of dried flowers, toasted nuts, mandarin orange, clear honey and subtle hints of iodine, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and expressive, with all the elegant charm and accessibility it displayed when I reviewed it for the first time last year. As I wrote then, this is an especially giving rendition of Grand Siècle that will show well young.

Bottle. The 24th iteration of Grand Siècle since the 1960s, now signalled with a ‘24’ on the bottle neck. 60% 2007, 20% 2006, 20% 2004, launched now. Mostly Chardonnay (55%) and Pinot Noir (45%), all grand cru. Disgorged October 2018 after 10 years on lees. Dosage 7 g/l.
Deep greenish yellow. Creamy, oaked Chardonnay sort of nose recalls white burgundy. Much richer than the Blanc de Blancs of course but with the same tight texture and filigree mousse. Firm and noble.
