About this winery

The culture of the vine has been practiced in Alsace for more than 2000 years. We find traces of the first Hugels in Alsace as early as the 15th century, and some two centuries later, Hans Ulrich Hugel settled in Riquewihr in 1639 and took the head of the powerful Corporation des Vignerons. Product notes

Perfect mealtime wine, this dry Riesling is distinguished by its finesse and straightforwardness and will demonstrate to you that it is the noblest of the white grape varieties. Riesling is the most demanding grape variety because it is also the latest. Dry and distinguished, it is fully expressed on the steepest and best exposed slopes.

Production notes

The grapes are transported to pneumatic presses by gravity. A single racking before winter when the wine clarifies naturally without artificial cold treatment. Light gentle filtration before bottling in the spring and then aging in bottles in our cellars until it is sold.

Tasting notes

Dashing color with dominant green nuances. Notes of fruits such as white peach, lemongrass, verbena and a pistachio side. On the palate, this Riesling is racy, dry without harshness, thirst-quenching, tasty, energetic with a touch of minerality. Pairings with raw fish, scallops, pad thai with tofu and poultry vol au vent.

James Suckling

James Suckling, March 2023 (Vintage 2022)

The stone and citrus fruit aromas pour from the glass of this wonderfully juicy and refreshing dry riesling, that already has excellent balance which will also appeal to people who are frightened of riesling’s acidity. Lovely grapefruit and pomelo freshness at the very bright finish. Drink or hold.

Anne Krebiehl, September 2020 (Vintage 2018)

In this wine, a hint of lemon zest on the nose is followed by traces of apple and Mirabelle plum. On the palate, this triple notion of fruit unites into vibrant juiciness and lovely balance on a light, bright body. The finish is refreshing and dry.
