About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. By developing the wine trade in the markets of northern Europe, he was already contributing to the reputation of Burgundy wines at the time. Several generations succeeded each other at the head of the family business, but his signature on the...

Product notes

In the heart of the village of Fuissé, this Clos of just over 2 hectares is on a very slight slope facing east. The most recent small plot was planted in 2003 but the most important part of this vineyard dates from 1956, so over 60 years ago, making it one of the oldest vines on the estate. Soil made from very calcareous marl from the Upper Bathonian.

Production notes

Fermentations and aging take place in barrels, 20% of which are new barrels, 80% in barrels of 1 to 3 wines for 10 months. Then the aging ends in stainless steel vats on fine lees for 7 months.

Tasting notes

This wine is very mineral, with aromas of limestone, but also of fresh fruit, which is found in the mouth, a ripe juice, fullness, smoothness, a light toasted oak, power and voltage. Pairings with snail puff pastry, veal chop in sauce and goat cheese.

William Kelley, October 2023 (Vintage 2021)

Aromas of pear, white flowers, nutmeg and pastry cream preface the 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cru Clos des Prouges, a medium to full-bodied, bright and satiny wine that's pretty and precise, concluding with a saline finish. This is a stronger performer in this challenging vintage.

Neil Martin, June 2023 (Vintage 2022)

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Prouges is the anomalous non-Premier Cru due to a lack of historical credentials according to the INAO, though the Domaine treats it equally. It has a pretty nose with red apples, almonds and crushed stones, with hints of praline in the background. Fine delineation. The palate is medium bodied with quite a concentrated opening. Again, it leans towards the richer style of Pouilly-Fuissé with impressive depth on the finish, though I'd like just a little more nerve to come through. Still, this is delicious.

Neil Martin, June 2023 (Vintage 2021)

The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Prouges has a well defined bouquet with lemon verbena and light sea spray aromas. The palate is well-balanced with fine acidity, moderate depth, though maybe it just does not quite kick on at the finish like the previous two vintages. Eight barrels produced instead of the usual 24 or 26.

Allen Meadows, August 2023 (Vintage 2022)

Slightly riper yet still fresh aromas offer up notes of exotic tea, spice, pear liqueur and slightly more prominent wood. As is usually the case, there is better volume to the more energetic medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the balanced, long and delicious finale. This could use better depth but the potential to develop it certainly appears to be present.

More subtle though certainly not invisible oak influence surrounds the mildly exotic array of very ripe white peach, passion fruit, lychee nut and petrol scents. The medium plus weight flavors are rich to the point of opulence before terminating in a sappy, concentrated and citrus zest-inflected finish. This is a big Pouilly-Fuissé that is indisputably generous though it's not particularly refined.

William Kelley, August 2019 (Vintage 2017)

The 2017 Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cru Clos des Prouges unwinds in the glass with a delicate bouquet of crisp orchard fruits, honeycomb, almond paste and fresh pastry. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and mineral, with a firm, structured core that's built around a bright girdle of acidity and chalky structuring extract. This is very promising, but it will reward a little bottle age.

Allen Meadows, October 2022 (Vintage 2021)

A cool, airy and elegant nose reflects notes of white fleshed fruit, spice and mineral reduction that are trimmed in more discreet wood influence. The rich and nicely concentrated medium weight flavors also possess a highly attractive mouthfeel that carries over to the very dry finish that is both more complex and a bit more persistent as well. Sweet spot Outstanding
