About this winery

In 1884, the brothers António and Francisco Borges founded a company dedicated to banking, the sale of lottery tickets and tobacco. Then in 1891, they created the Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges, a company dedicated to the production and marketing of wine. Production notes

Complete destemming of the grapes followed by gentle crushing. Short pre-fermentation maceration followed by fermentation in vats for 6-8 days at a controlled temperature (28 ºC) with fairly frequent pumping over. After alcoholic fermentation, the parts with which the wine has fermented are separated. All wine is matured in French oak barrels for 9-12 months. Carried out in an inert atmosphere for the total deoxygenation of the bottle.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby color. Initial aromas of black plum and menthol, in a very well integrated whole with some spices and smoky notes, coming from the stay in barrel. The attack on the palate is very tasty, marked by fresh notes of menthol, thanks to the acidity very balanced by a large volume of soft tannins, in a whole that ends with a long and persistent finish. Pairings with meats on the BBQ.

A mineral textured and spice flavored wine, this is a fine evocation of the structure of the Douro. Its fine tannins are threaded with black fruits and acidity bringing a taut edge to the richness. Drink from 2022.

A blend of four of the classic Douro white grapes, this wine is soft, toasty and with an easy blend of fresh fruits and bright acidity. There is an attractive citrus crispness to the aftertaste. Drink now.
