Amarone della Valpolicella 2018

- 90 points -

The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella is dark and brooding in the glass, smoldering up to show rich black cheeries mixed with notes of brown sugar, savory herbs and tobacco. It stains the palate with ripe fruits and sweet spice carried by silky textures over a medium-bodied framework. Bright acidity maintains admirable balance, as the 2018 comes accross as spry and almost savory in style. It finishes long and only lightly structured, leaving black currants and a hint of cracked peppercorn. While I don't find a lot of com*plexity here, the 2018 does make for a lovely expression of Amarone.
