Rose, cherry and spice aromas introduce this light-bodied, saturated version. The flavors add wild strawberry, incense and kirsch notes, while remaining persistent on the kaleidoscopic finish. Feels tense now, yet should develop nicely over time. A mineral element lingers. Best from 2023 through 2045. 900 cases made

James Suckling, Juillet 2022 (Millésime 2020)

Rich and gamey nose, of the kind that gets real Burgundy freaks very excited. Iron, smoke and earth in its soul. With aeration it develops wonderful, super-ripe sour-cherry fruit. Then comes the massive structure of the expansive yet fresh finish, the wine moving over your palate like a great ocean liner plowing through the waves of the North Atlantic. Here's one with decades of aging potential. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2030

Roger Voss, Janvier 2019 (Millésime 2016)

Jadot is one of about 80 owners of tiny parcels in this walled, five-acre vineyard. This wine is as much about rich, generous opulence as about structure. An ethereal fragrance moves into the powerful black fruits and velvet tannins. The wine will develop slowly and surely, ready to drink from 2027.

Mars 2023 (Millésime 2020)

A sleek black cherry- and blackberry-infused version, this is tightly coiled and unfurls slowly across the palate. Remains linear and bracing as this ends with mineral and spice notes. Shows superb balance and length. Best from 2026 through 2045

William Kelley, Janvier 2019 (Millésime 2016)

The 2016 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing well from bottle, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully primary bouquet of ripe cherries, red berries, candied peel and cassis that's subtly framed by some nicely integrated new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and satiny textured, its broad-shouldered chassis of impressively fine-grained tannin cloaked in a succulent, even tangy core of vibrant fruit, concluding with a long and nicely defined finish. While the structure is sufficiently refined that drinking a glass now isn't a brutalizing experience, a decade of patience is recommended.

Allen Meadows, Octobre 2020 (Millésime 2017)

A markedly floral if decidedly reticent nose that is trimmed in subtle oak influence speaks of spiced plum, lavender, violet and red cherry. The attractively concentrated and generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors brim with sappy dry extract that also buffers the moderately firm tannins on the powerful and slightly grippy finish that exudes a hint of bitter chocolate. At least some patience is definitely advised as this youthfully austere effort is likely to evolve slowly.

Neal Martin, Janvier 2019 (Millésime 2017)

The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was showing some reduction on the nose when tasted from barrel, making it difficult to read. The masculine palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin and quite firm in the mouth. I would be seeking more finesse and nuance, especially toward the sinewy finish, once this is in bottle.

The 2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) is a standout this year. Revealing aromas of cassis, dark cherries, incense, rose petals, dark chocolate and spices, it's full-bodied, concentrated and structured, with striking depth and dimension. Vibrant and penetrating, it will require patience, but it's the finest Clos Vougeot I've ever tasted from Jadot.
