Niché dans les contreforts de la vallée de Wairau, sculptée par de puissantes forces glaciaires et tectoniques, le domaine Clos Henri repose sur certains des sols les plus fascinants de la région de Marlborough. Il est dirigé par des membres de la célèbre famille de vignerons Henri Bourgeois, originaire de Sancerre, en France, le domaine a été méticuleusement entretenu depuis sa création en 2000.

Winemaker Damien Yvon says, 'the concept is not that different from the Estate bottling but it's fruit from a single soil type, the stony soils on a glacial not alluvial base'. (He's a geology nut.) They are looking for soil expression. 'For us stony soils are most important with the deeper roots driving the minerality and tension that the Bourgeois family love.' 15% in oak. No skin contact. No malo. This seems to have the transparency of Sancerre. Really fresh and sophisticated. Bone-dry end

A perfumed and pretty mix features notes of both red and dark cherry liqueur along with floral and exotic tea nuances. This too possesses a highly attractive mouthfeel with slightly better mid-palate density to the relatively powerful flavors that are a mix of refinement and punch on the dusty, moderately austere and firmly structured finale. This is a classic Theurons of grace, but no lack of character, that will need extended patience to arrive at its apogee. *Burghound Outstanding!

The Domaine des Héritiers Jadot owns the iconic 2.15ha monopole of the Clos des Ursules. It faces east in stony soils and is found at mid-slope between Vignes Franches and Aigrots. This produces a wine that is always a bit richer, with lovely red cherry and cassis fruit, a mineral edge and hints of smoke and spice. The texture is structured and firm, but there is no astringency and it should open up marvellously well with time. A lovely wine.
