The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Embazées 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with flecks of white chocolate and almond complementing the citrus fruit on the nose and a discreet icing sugar scent in the background. The palate is very well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity cutting through the intense orange zest and passion fruit notes. There is a palpable and enticing sense of harmony to this Chassagne, and a slight nuttiness develops on the finish. Excellent.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet of honeysuckle, Golden Delicious apples and light brioche notes that come through with aeration. The palate is fresh and spicy on the entry, offering orange peel and tangerine, a twist of sour lemon on the entry, good weight and a slightly waxy-textured finish that lingers in the mouth. Good potential here

From bottle, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing beautifully, offering up a youthful but expressive bouquet of dark wild berries, currant leaf, coniferous forest floor and subtle hints of peony. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny with a generous core of cool, sappy fruit, melting tannins and a beautifully defined finish. It's a beautifully complete, elegant Estournelles Saint-Jacques that confirms its terrific performance from barrel. While it's sufficiently supple to be approachable now, a decade of patience will be rewarded by considerably greater complexity.

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru has an airy, well-defined, transparent bouquet that is more feminine and refined than the Les Sentiers. The palate of sappy red fruit is medium-bodied and harmonious, offering fine acidity and ample red currant and cranberry fruit toward the finish. This is one of the best Premier Crus that I tasted from Jadot this vintage.
