Product notes

With the Côte de Brouilly, this climate is the symbol of the terroirs of diorite, a bluish rock resulting from an underwater volcanism and older than that which led to the formation of pink granite.

Production notes

Picked by hand in boxes, sorted and destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. Pigeages or pumping over punctuate the fermentation. The wines are aged for 10 months, in oak barrels of one wine, two wines and new, in our old cellar from the 17th century.

Tasting notes

Deep cherry color and aromas of white pepper and red fruits including blackberry. This wine has firm, complex and very dense tannins. Can be consumed immediately, but will soften and develop with a few years of aging. Pairings with game, ducks, quail and spicy cheeses.

William Kelley, May 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Morgon Côte du Py is showing very well, mingling aromas of black cherries and cassis with subtle hints of grilled meats and exotic spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and nicely concentrated, with lively acids and powdery structuring tannins. It's a step up in depth and incipient complexity over the estate's regular Morgon.

This shows lots of finesse, with raspberry tart and ripe cherry notes infused with violet, mocha and anise accents. Plush, inviting tannins give support, with integrated acidity keeping it focused. Drink now through 2030

Josh Raynolds, August 2021 (Vintage 2018)

Dark magenta. Expansive red and blue fruit, violet, exotic spice and mineral qualities on the smoky nose. Appealingly sweet black raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors deepen and take on a spicy aspect as the wine opens up. Shows excellent clarity and solid thrust on an impressively long, subtly chewy finish that features sneaky tannins and lingering blue fruit character.

Josh Raynolds, February 2015 (Vintage 2013)

Brilliant ruby. Aromas of black raspberry and cherry accented by spices and flowers, with a hint of smokiness in the background. Supple and seamless on the palate, offering sappy dark berry and cherry compote flavors and a sexy violet pastille nuance. The long, penetrating finish features supple tannins, repeating florality and a lively mineral quality.

Neal Martin, June 2015 (Vintage 2013)

The 2013 Morgon Côte du Py has a taut bouquet, black cherry and blackcurrant notes, with a light marine influence that distinguishes it from the 2013 Morgon. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth, fleshy mouthfeel. The texture is a little grainier than the Morgon, there is slightly more backbone with a saline tang right on the finish. This is a finely made Côte du Py to drink over the next 8 to 10 years.

January 2021 (Vintage 2018)

Jancis Robinson, January 2015 (Vintage 2013)

Masses of fruit and minerally texture. Lots of chewiness. Unlike the Rochelle, which could be drunk in youth, this demands time, in an admirable way. Very lively indeed but very very youthful.
