About this winery

The Château de Fuissé, built in the heart of its eponymous village in the 16th century, has belonged to the Vincent family for 5 generations. Claude Bulland acquired the estate in 1862 for the production of wine, then in 1922, Jacques Vincent-Bulland became one of the co-founders of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Each generation has set its own milestone, which today ensures international recognition of the quality of Château Fuissé products. In 1948, it was Marcel Vincent's turn to...

Product notes

"Les Combettes" Château-Fuissé (1.3 ha) is a small valley located at the southern end of the "Côte de Fuissé". The soils are extremely stony and limestone, naturally well drained, thus giving fine, very mineral and particularly racy wines.

Production notes

The grapes are brought to the state-of-the-art cellar where they are sorted and put into barrels for fermentation. The must rests in the cellars of Château Fuissé for 12 months in used oak barrels (3 to 5 years). To maintain its vibrant acidity, no new oak is used in this cuvée.

Tasting notes

Light yellow color. Floral and mineral nose, with notes of exotic fruits and ripe apples. On the palate, the attack is full-bodied and fresh with aromas of white flowers. Rich on the finish, the wine is fresh, with crunchy minerality and good roundness. Pairings with lobster, veal rib and firm cheeses.

Allen Meadows, October 2020 (Vintage 2018)

Here too there is noticeable though not intrusive wood setting off the elegant and cool aromas of essence of pear, green apple and a whiff of quinine. The finer if perhaps slightly less voluminous flavors also possess good verve before culminating in an agreeably dry, focused and even chiseled finale. This youthfully austere and linear effort will need a few years to flash out and add depth.

William Kelley, August 2018 (Vintage 2016)

The 2016 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Combettes offers up pretty aromas of white flowers, ripe citrus and almond paste. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly satiny and tangy, with good concentration and length. It's a pure, tensile bottling from a cooler, stonier site that ferments and matures in neutral wood.

Allen Meadows, October 2018 (Vintage 2016)

Here too a subtle application of wood easily allows the moderately exotic citrus-inflected, white flower, dried apricot and pear scents to be appreciated. The mouth feel of the medium weight flavors is a bit more refined while retaining good precision and punch on the notably powerful, dry and lemony finish.

January 2021 (Vintage 2018)

Les Combettes offre un profil fin encore très discret, bien géré dans son niveau de maturité et d’élevage, un vin très équilibré au potentiel élevé.

Allen Meadows, November 2020 (Vintage 2019)

More subtle wood influence sets off the reduced though clearly ripe nose. Otherwise there is excellent focus and intensity to the racy and well-detailed flavors that flash a hint of bitter lemon character on the chiseled, focused and lingering finale. This too is lovely.
