About this winery
The culture of the vine has been practiced in Alsace for more than 2000 years. We find traces of the first Hugels in Alsace as early as the 15th century, and some two centuries later, Hans Ulrich Hugel settled in Riquewihr in 1639 and took the head of the powerful Corporation des Vignerons. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Hugels were recognized as great winegrowers. Product notes
Clay-limestone vines in a dozen of the most popular localities in Riquewihr and the surrounding area.
Production notes
100% destemmed and maceration for 6 to 7 days. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in vats until it is bottled in early summer the following year.
Tasting notes
Brilliant ruby color with brilliant reflections. The nose evokes morello cherry, kirsch, currant and fresh tobacco with all the frank and abundant fruitiness of an Alsace wine without any undesirable woodiness to mask them. On the palate, it is wonderfully fresh. The tannin is present but not too harsh with a nice texture that fades to leave structure for the not too dry finish. Pairings with charcuterie and white meat
