About this winery

The culture of the vine has been practiced in Alsace for more than 2000 years. We find traces of the first Hugels in Alsace as early as the 15th century, and some two centuries later, Hans Ulrich Hugel settled in Riquewihr in 1639 and took the head of the powerful Corporation des Vignerons. Product notes

The perfect introduction to the wines of the Hugel Family: Only one that is not from a single grape variety. GENTIL "HUGEL" revives an Alsatian tradition where blends of noble grape varieties were called "Gentil" combining the suave and spicy side of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the fruitiness of Muscat and the thirst-quenching side of Sylvaner. A superb wine of pleasure!

Winemaking notes

The grapes are transported to pneumatic presses by gravity. A single racking and light filtration before bottling in spring then aging in bottles in our cellars. Age of the vines: 26 years

Tasting notes

Clear color with green reflections with a beautiful crystalline shine. Fresh bouquet, aromas of green apples, pear, lychee, passion fruit and rose. On the palate, dry, tender, melted and harmonious with an elegant finish. Pairings with oysters, sushi, marinated fish and spicy cuisine.

James Suckling, August 2019

A very clean and citrusy white that shows green apples and lemons. Medium-bodied and very dry, this is sleek, tangy and fruity on the finish. Drink now.

Anne Krebiehl, May 2020

Slight notes of ripe yellow pear appear shyly on the nose of this wine. The palate comes in with freshness supported by very slight spritz. Lemony brightness dominates the dry finish of this slender wine.
