About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. By developing the wine trade in the markets of northern Europe, he was already contributing to the reputation of Burgundy wines at the time. Several generations succeeded each other at the head of the family business, but his signature on the...

Production notes

The harvest is manual in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are macerated in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are punched twice a day during fermentation. Aging lasts about 18 months in barrels, about a third of which are new.

Roger Voss, December 2015 (Vintage 2013)

This wine is dark and dense, very closed at this young stage. But wait for that rich fruit to burst out to give its intense acidity and ripeness to the wine. It's a powerhouse of flavors, spice and dark minerality. Drink from 2022

Good medium red. Deep, ripe nose combines redcurrant, mocha, spices, flowers, menthol and a whiff of game. Pliant and silky in the mouth but with a juicy quality giving shape to the middle palate. Finishes with fine-grained, sweet tannins and a distinctly light touch. The Jadot 2011s are mostly complex and stylish; few of them are especially fleshy today.

Aromas of cassis, orange rind, smoked meats and loamy soil preface the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, ample and layered wine that's concentrated and textural, with fine definition and a long, aromatic finish. This is another of the high points of the négoce portfolio this year.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has an elegant, precise bouquet, one of my picks among Jadot’s 2018s Gevreys. So pretty! The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fleshy and silky-smooth. The caressing finish demonstrates more oak integration than the Estournelles or the Lavaux. Excellent.

More moderate though far from invisible wood frames distinctly spicy and sauvage aromas of menthol, earth, plum and smoked meat nuances. There is fine volume and solid ripeness to the very firm supporting tannins that shape the medium weight and quite suave flavors that possess a bit more punch and length compared to the Petite Chapelle.

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers has an enticing bouquet with fresh strawberry, quince, Seville oranges and a subtle wilted-violet scent. The palate is underpinned by very fine tannin that render this very feminine: silky smooth with a filigree finish that deserves a light applause. This comes highly recommended.

Neal Martin, December 2020 (Vintage 2019)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has an exquisite bouquet of crystalline red berry fruit laced with minerals, wonderfully delineated and focused. The palate is smooth and sensual on the entry, and very cohesive, with a perfect line of acidity. Pure and ravishing, armed with a satin-textured finish, this is going to be very difficult to resist once in bottle. Superb.

Allen Meadows, April 2021 (Vintage 2019)

Here too the wood treatment is no longer subtle though it stops short of dominating the pungently earthy humus-inflected mix of red and dark wild berries. There is outstanding volume to the delicious and plump but powerful large-scaled flavors that terminate in a mouthcoating, balanced and built-to-age finale. This possesses excellent development potential though it's not so structured that it couldn't be approached after 7 to 10 years even though it should easily reward 15+.

Outstanding
