About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. Product notes

"Les Saint-Georges" is considered to be one of the oldest climates in Burgundy, this locality was already planted in the year 1000. It is also considered the best Cru of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Calcareous brown soils, deep and very stony ... awaiting upgrading to GRAND CRU.

Production notes

The harvest is manual in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are macerated in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The vats are punched twice a day during fermentation. Aging lasts about 18 months in barrels, about a third of which are new.

Tasting notes

Beautiful dark ruby color. The powerful nose expresses itself on notes of spices and ripe fruits. The clean and round attack draws up a balanced palate, with supple and generous tannins. The harmony and elegance of this wine do justice to this renowned Premier Cru. Pairings with rib of beef with morels, venison jig and pan-fried foie gras.

Allen Meadows, April 2020 (Vintage 2018)

Pungent aromas of wood, plum, earth, spice and black berry liqueur introduce supple and relatively forward flavors that culminate in a firm and mildly drying finish. While I cannot be sure, it appears that this may have been somewhat affected by the hailstorm that hit the sector during the growing season.

Neal Martin, January 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a classy bouquet of vibrant red berry fruit, sous-bois and brown spice aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A fine-boned, focused Les Saint-Georges with admirable precision and mineralité on the finish. This is a step up from the Les Vaucrains. Excellent.
