Product notes

The wines of the Cavanera Etnea estate are part of the elite by birth and are dedicated to exclusivity. Only the extraordinary terroir of Castiglione di Sicilia, on the slopes of the largest active volcano in Europe, could give a wine of such personality. The volcanic soils of the estate are distinguished by their high content of phosphorus, which determines the sugar content of the must and manganese, which increases the resistance of plants to cold.

Production notes

Location of the vineyards from 550 to 700 m above sea level. Manual harvest. The vinification was carried out in steel at controlled temperature in vats. Annual production: 60,000 bottles

Tasting notes

Brilliant ruby red color with violet undertones. Typically mineral, ripe and elegant with intense notes of cassis, prune, jam, black cherries, licorice, pepper and faded violet. Well balanced and harmonious, it develops with energy and liveliness, rich, warm and refined, with smooth tannins. Pairings with arancini, pasta alla norma and spincione.

James Suckling, August 2022 (Vintage 2019)

Red and black berries and a persistent underlay of dry, ash-like minerals, as you might expect from grapes grown on the slopes of a volcano. Medium-bodied with a savory flavor profile and fine tannins that blend nicely with the lingering minerals at the end. The real Etna deal here. Drink or hold.

James Suckling, November 2020 (Vintage 2018)

Very fine. Freshly grated nutmeg and wild blackberries on the nose with lots of ash. It’s medium-bodied with silky tannins. More savory flavors of olives and grilled mushrooms on the finish. Drink or hold.

Slightly light color. Extremely perfumed with candied-orange, watermelon and cherry aromas that follow through to a medium body with firm tannins and a crisp finish. Drink now.

Walter Speller, June 2021 (Vintage 2019)

Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio from bush-trained vines. Fermentation and ageing in stainless steel.
Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Spicy and savoury and still a little closed on the fruit. Brooding, peppery cherry. Light savoury cherry fruit palate with soft powdery tannins. Fresh and light.
