About this winery

Located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany, Castello di Brolio is the historic cradle of the Ricasoli family, active in viticulture since 1141, making it Italy's oldest winery. The visionary Bettino Ricasoli was behind the original Chianti Classico formula, created in 1872. Since 1993, Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of the estate with passion, breathing new life into it through an approach combining respect for tradition, technical innovation and a scientific approach....

Product notes

Castello di Brolio is born from a meticulous selection of estate-grown grapes from the three most representative terroirs of Brolio: Macigno del Chianti (sandstone), Scaglia Toscana (Galestro), and Monte Morello (Alberese). Castello di Brolio is our flagship wine, produced through a rigorous selection of estate-grown grapes. Produced only in the best years, this iconic wine will leave a lasting impression. Its key characteristics are its concentration and tannic structure.

Production notes

Aging: 23 months in 500-litre barrels, 30% of which are new and 70% are second-passage barrels.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red color. Complex and airy nose, with notes of black cherry and subtle balsamic and woody notes. On the palate, it's elegant and enveloping, juicy and mineral, with a lingering finish. Pairs well with duck and game meats.

Bruce Sanderson, November 2018 (Vintage 2015)

Sweet, ripe cherry and raspberry flavors define this Chianti Classico from start to finish, augmented by almond, iron and tar accents, with a hefty dose of grainy tannins. All the elements come together on the juicy aftertaste. Best from 2021 through 2036. 250 cases imported.
