About this winery

Since 1934 this Château has produced its own bottles and the Devillard family is in its 5th generation of wine growers passionate about grapes and wine. Located in Mercurey in the greater Burgundy region, the 37 hectare vineyard benefits from all the typical attributes of the region, which the Devillards combine with rigorous vinification, always waiting for the maximum maturity of the fruits before starting their work.

William Kelley, July 2019 (Vintage 2017)

Offering up aromas of red berry fruit, orange rind and rose petals, the 2017 Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martin is medium to full-bodied, satiny and elegant, with lively acids, a vibrant core of fruit and fine, chalky tannins, concluding with a long finish. It's one of the clear successes from the Château de Chamirey this year.

Sweet spot Outstanding

A deft application of wood frames overtly floral aromas of earth, plum and dark berry liqueur. The mouth feel of the medium weight flavors is sleeker and slightly more energetic as well, all wrapped in a moderately firm, serious and youthfully austere finale. This is really quite good but note that this too is going to require at least a few years of forbearance.
