About this winery

Since 1934 this Château has produced its own bottles and the Devillard family is in its 5th generation of wine growers passionate about grapes and wine. Located in Mercurey in the greater Burgundy region, the 37 hectare vineyard benefits from all the typical attributes of the region, which the Devillards combine with rigorous vinification, always waiting for the maximum maturity of the fruits before starting their work.

Product notes

This cuvée comes from two "En Pierrelet" plots, planted in 1990. Total area: 2.9670 hectares. Small clay-limestone terrace predominantly limestone. Exposed south-east, the vines are located just behind the Château.

Production notes

The grapes are harvested by hand and the harvest is sorted by hand, partially or 100% destemmed depending on the vintage before pressing. The juice is settled after pressing for 12 to 24 hours at controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation is carried out at 100%. The wine, after fermentation, is aged for 11 months.

Tasting notes

Clear and brilliant golden color. The nose develops notes of sweet spices, nutmeg and white flowers. The palate is ripe and clean, with good volume. Its aromatic power, focused on white fruit and brioche notes, gives it a good length. Pair with salmon tartars, tandoori chicken and mature goat cheeses.

Charles Curtis, October 2022 (Vintage 2021)

En Pierrelet is near the home of Château de Chamirey, located behind the château itself in thin clay soils over solid limestone. This bottling is a selection of the best fruit from one hectare (out of 2.9 hectares in total). The vines delivered a delicious wine with aromas of ripe pear, nectarine, and lemon peel. The texture was supple and surprisingly rich. The grapes were gently pressed and fermented in 400 litre casks (30% new).

William Kelley, July 2018 (Vintage 2016)

The 2016 Mercurey En Pierrelet Blanc is a great success, revealing notes of citrus zest, lemon curd and honeyed peached, followed by a medium to full-bodied, tense and chalky palate with good cut and concentration. It's a lovely Côte Chalonnaise blanc that's already approachable.

Allen Meadows, October 2022 (Vintage 2021)

Here too there is a whiff of the exotic to the cool aromas of apple, pear, citrus and spice that are trimmed in more subtle though not invisible wood influence. The rich, sappy and palate staining medium weight flavors that possess a suave texture before culminating in a sneaky long finish that is also supported by bright acidity.

Oak more evident on the nose. Promising, rich, layered stone-fruit notes. Mineral edge. Very good concentration here, real character and style. Delicious, moreish.

Julia Harding, January 2018 (Vintage 2016)

The oak spice shows a little on the nose but the fruit is more intense than on the village wine. Rich, creamy lemon and grapefruit on the palate, rounded out by the leesy texture and the barrel influence. Impressive length. GV (JH)
