Product notes

Its name on the land register - Au mont - testifies to its position on the heights of the appellation; this unique climate of 8 hectares gives pride of place to pink granite soils, shallow but more clayey than around the Moulin à Vent. Above all, this terroir is crossed by very many veins of quartz.

Production notes

Picked by hand in boxes, sorted and often destemmed, the grapes macerate slowly for three to four weeks. The wines are aged for 10 months, in oak barrels of one wine, two wines and new, in our old cellar from the 17th century.

Tasting notes

Clos de Rochegrès presents fine aromas and flavors of black fruits, rose and peony with a mineral touch. The wine is generous on the palate thanks to its elegant and persistent tannins. Pairings with red meats, game and cheese.

William Kelley, May 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès has turned out beautifully, unfurling in the glass with a youthfully primary bouquet of black cherries, blackberries, candied peel and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's rich and layered, with an ample core of fruit, lively acids and a gourmand, enveloping profile. Its oak is already entirely integrated to the extent of being imperceptible—which, for my palate, takes this cuvée to a new level.

William Kelley, August 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès unwinds in the glass with scents of cherries, cassis, dark berries, sweet soil tones and spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's bright and seamless, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a saline finish. It's less ethereal than the 2019 without being as muscular as the 2018, striking a nice balance.

Bright and floral with rose and lilac aromas. Graphite, too. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish. Refined and linear. Just a hint of vanilla. Drink or hold.

Shimmering violet. Pungent, mineral- and spice-accented cherry and cassis aromas pick up a smoky nuance and a hint of candied violet with air. Chewy and broad in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors that show real depth as well as mineral lift. Gripping tannins frame a very long, smoky finish that echoes the floral and licorice notes.

This wood-aged wine comes from 45-year-old vines in one of the top vineyards in the appellation. Rich and beautifully structured, it has tannins and a firm structure that point to aging. Wait to drink this wine until 2022.

William Kelley, April 2019 (Vintage 2017)

A wine built for the cellar, the 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès unfurls in the glass with a rich bouquet of ripe berry fruit, spices, candied peel and dark chocolate. On the plate, it's full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with an ample core of fruit, ripe acids and a chewy chassis of tannin that will require some patience. Impressively, this Moulin-à-Vent has already largely integrated its new wood, and though it's a high wire act in terms of alcohol and extraction, I suspect it will evolve positively in the cellar.

Tom Parker, December 2019 (Vintage 2018)

Fairly deep ruby in colour with sweet red strawberries and sweet char on the nose. Chalky and rich, with a bold tannic structure but oodles of glossy red fruit that make this seamless and juicy. A real pop of red fruit and sweet vanilla that linger on the finish.
