Product notes

The Echezeaux plots above and Les Quartiers de Nuits make up our Echezeaux Grand Cru. The soil is clay-limestone, predominantly clayey.

Production notes

Harvested by hand, then sorted manually. This cuvée has undergone whole harvest vinification (30% of the harvest). After maceration, press juice and free run juice are carefully separated and matured separately. Aged for 18 months 100% in oak barrels, 85% of which are new, then 2 months in vats.

Tasting notes

Beautiful deep red, purple and velvety robe. The nose is expressive and delicate, dominated by ripe fruits: cherry, plum. Floral notes of violet are lifted by a hint of spice. On the palate, the fruitiness is bright and crunchy. The power/roundness balance is just right. The finish is saline and long. Pairings with duck and red meats

Neal Martin, December 2021 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from Echézeaux du Dessus and Quartiers de Nuits climats, does not quite work for me on the nose. It feels distant, aloof and lacks a bit of vitality. The palate is much better with grainy tannins, crunchy red fruit and an appealing bite on the finish. The aromatics do improve, so I will give it this the benefit of the doubt.
