About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. By developing the wine trade in the markets of northern Europe, he was already contributing to the reputation of Burgundy wines at the time. Several generations succeeded each other at the head of the family business, but his signature on the...

Product notes

This parcel was acquired in 1826 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot and it has always remained the property of the Jadot family ever since. The central and southern parts of the vineyard produce powerful, tannic and deep-coloured wines. The northern part gives softer wines and generally less deep in color.

Production notes

The grapes are destemmed. Casked in oak barrels in our cellars, and aged for 18 months.

Tasting notes

Ample, firm and rich wine, the Clos des Ursules has aromas of earth and red fruits and perfectly balances elegance and power. It will develop in bottle for 10 to 15 years. Pairings with grilled tuna, duck and veal chop.

James Suckling, August 2020 (Vintage 2018)

A tight, savory red with ripe strawberry, cherry and raspberry character. Some chocolate and hazelnut undertones. It’s full-bodied and layered with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. White pepper just at the end.

November 2021 (Vintage 2020)

The Domaine des Héritiers Jadot owns the iconic 2.15ha monopole of the Clos des Ursules. It faces east in stony soils and is found at mid-slope between Vignes Franches and Aigrots. This produces a wine that is always a bit richer, with lovely red cherry and cassis fruit, a mineral edge and hints of smoke and spice. The texture is structured and firm, but there is no astringency and it should open up marvellously well with time. A lovely wine.

James Suckling, July 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Fabulous, fresh blackberry and black-cherry nose with some heady floral notes. Imposing tannin structure and concentration, but it is all wrapped in big black fruit. The crisp acidity of the vintage is very present here and makes this bright, but the firm and stony finish needs some time to completely harmonize. This will really blossom if you have a little patience. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

Allen Meadows, April 2021 (Vintage 2018)

A very deft touch of wood sets off the ripe and mostly dark berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in noticeable earth. The attractively punchy and well-detailed medium weight flavors are nicely refined while offering a subtle minerality on the moderately structured and youthfully austere finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. At least some patience suggested. *Outstanding!*

Allen Meadows, April 2021 (Vintage 2019)

This is also markedly reserved and requires vigorous swirling to reveal its array of cool, pure and wonderfully complex red and dark berries, earth, spice and a pretty floral whiff. There is a positively gorgeous mouthfeel to the sleek but plush flavors that manage to retain very good definition on the dusty, serious and impressively persistent finale. This is already really lovely and potentially great.

William Kelley, January 2021 (Vintage 2019)

Always one of the high points of the portfolio, the 2019 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot) offers up aromas of berries and plums with hints of warm spices and orange rind, framed by a deft touch of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, round and fleshy, with elegantly muscular structuring tannins and lively acids, this will age with grace.

Neal Martin, December 2020 (Vintage 2019)

The 2019 Beaune Clos des Ursules 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet featuring a mélange of red and black fruit intermingled with orange blossom and iodine aromas. Good intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with a stocky opening, fine structure and symmetry and a fine bead of acidity. There’s a dark fruit flourish toward the finish, which leaves behind a subtle marine-themed aftertaste. Excellent.

Allen Meadows, April 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Once again there is ample floral influence to the markedly spicy dark cherry coulis aromas. The vibrant and impressively dense middle weight plus flavors also possess a beguilingly suave texture while displaying excellent persistence on the firm, serious and youthfully austere finale. If you have the patience to wait at least 7 to 8 years, this would make a fine choice. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!
