About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. Product notes

Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles is located south of the Côte de Beaune at the top of a hill between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet but in the town of Puligny above Montrachet. Louis Jadot reinstated in his heritage in 1913 this vine which had belonged until 1846 to ancestors of the family, the young ladies Adèle and Julie Voillot. This vine, planted on limestone and pebbles, of half a hectare adjoins Montrachet.

Production notes

The harvest is manual in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit. The grapes are then gently pressed and then fermented in the barrels of our cooperage, a third of which are new. Aging lasts about 15 months on fine lees before preparation for bottling.

Tasting notes

This Grand Cru is produced in limited quantities, and sometimes equals or surpasses the great Chardonnay Grand Cru Le Montrachet in its concentration and complexity. It offers a deep scent of toast, honey, hazelnut and white fruits. It is full-bodied and powerful, with a long finish. Pairings with foie gras, lobster, scallops and veal sweetbreads. (optional truffles)

James Suckling, February 2019 (Vintage 2017)

Very attractive and fresh aromas of wet stones and fine limes with youthful peaches and green mango. The scintillatingly long and powerful palate is pinned in place with bracing acidity and has unwavering length of peaches and citrus fruit. Breathtaking finish. Drink or hold.

Allen Meadows, June 2019 (Vintage 2017)

This is restrained to the point of being all but mute and it requires aggressive swirling to liberate the airy and cool yet clearly ripe aromas of various white flowers, citrus and spice elements. There is once again excellent volume and concentration as well as markedly more minerality if somewhat less powerful broad-shouldered flavors that possess fine mid-palate density, all wrapped in a gorgeously long, complex and strikingly harmonious finish. While this too is very clearly built-to-age, it's not so imposing that it couldn't be enjoyed after 5-ish years.
