About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. By developing the wine trade in the markets of northern Europe, he was already contributing to the reputation of Burgundy wines at the time. Product notes

The “Pougets” vineyard is located in an original location on the Corton kidney, on the place of origin of the Corton Charlemagne. It is oriented East-South, thus benefiting from maximum sunshine. It comes from the Héritiers Louis Jadot estate (1.54 hectares). The soil is brown limestone with scree-silt slopes. The subsoil is mainly marl-limestone.

Production notes

Aging lasts around 18 months in barrels from our cooperage, around a third of which are new.

Tasting notes

Wide palette of black and red fruits, surprisingly accessible and elegant for a young Corton. Power and delicacy on its fairly long finish. Pairings with Veal chop

Bruce Anderson, February 2023 (Vintage 2020)

Intense and tightly wound, this red is firmly structured and energetic, featuring cherry, strawberry, stone and spice flavors, with the acidity and tannins lending support for future evolution. All the components are there, this just needs a few years to knit together. Best from 2027 through 2045. From France

Allen Meadows, April 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Once again a moderate but not generous wood treatment stops short of overshadowing the slightly more elegant nose of black raspberry coulis, spice and warm earth scents. By contrast, the mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is notably finer compared to the Clos du Roi or Grèves while retaining excellent punch, detail and persistence on the balanced finale. Despite the greater refinement, this too is clearly built-to-age and extended patience will be required even though this might well be approachable after 8 to 10 years has passed. *Burghound Sweet Spot!*

Neal Martin, December 2021 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Corton-Pougets Grand Cru is often one of Jadot’s strongest cards amongst the Côte de Beaune reds and this is no different. It has a captivating bouquet with earthy red fruit, graphite, just a faint hint of menthol that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, lightly spiced with a dash of white pepper towards the sustained finish. It will require several years in bottle to show its best, but it will be worth waiting for.
