About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. By developing the wine trade in the markets of northern Europe, he was already contributing to the reputation of Burgundy wines at the time. Several generations succeeded each other at the head of the family business, but his signature on the...

James Suckling, July 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The expansive nose of fresh black cherry and dry earth leads you into this very compact and concentrated Gevrey-Chambertin, which has the scale and gravitas of a Grand Cru, as well as massive tannin structure. This youthful form might be too much for some, but if you have a little patience, this is going to be a magnificent drinking experience. From organically grown grapes

At this stage of its evolution, this demonstrates lush dark plum and cassis fruit, with floral notes plus hints of smoke and spice. The texture is tannic and firm, with an impressive level of extract and a lingering, beautiful persistence on the finish. Jadot's hectare of the Clos St-Jacques, acquired in 1985 from the Clair-Daü family, has long been one of the jewels of its estate. It is located at the centre of the Clos, producing a wine of tremendous refinement and elegance. Jadot destems the grapes and ferments gently before ageing in cask (30% new).

William Kelley, January 2019 (Vintage 2016)

From bottle, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing beautifully, offering up a youthful but expressive bouquet of dark wild berries, currant leaf, coniferous forest floor and subtle hints of peony. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny with a generous core of cool, sappy fruit, melting tannins and a beautifully defined finish. It's a beautifully complete, elegant Estournelles Saint-Jacques that confirms its terrific performance from barrel. While it's sufficiently supple to be approachable now, a decade of patience will be rewarded by considerably greater complexity.

Stephen Tanzer, January 2018 (Vintage 2016)

Bright, full red. Less floral and high-pitched on the nose than the Lavaux SaintJacques, and not currently showing that wine's crushed-stone minerality. In a more medicinal, muscular style, conveying a strong impression of punch but not the delicacy or detail of the Lavaux. Rich and filled in but more about savory minerality and soil tones than flowers and spices. It's possible that this sample was drawn from a less-fresh barrel; I look forward to following up on this wine from bottle next year.

April 2022 (Vintage 2020)

This is also on the somber side with its even cooler and more restrained nose of red currant, wild cherry and pretty floral wisps. The slightly less concentrated and powerful middle weight flavors possess excellent energy as well as a notably finer mouthfeel on the intensely mineral-driven, moderately austere and beautifully long finale that is very well-balanced. Lovely juice. *Outstanding!*
