About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. Product notes

The most recent of the A.O.C. of Burgundy (1987) promoted to the rank of communal appellation. Marsannay is the only village producing red wine, rosé and white. This vineyard is exposed to the East-South in the commune of Chenôve. The soils are dark brown, dry, of limestone-marl-clay composition, with pebbles and gravel favorable to good natural drainage. Clos du Roy is one of the climates that will be strongly claimed as premier cru in the near future.

Production notes

The harvest is manual, carefully sorted by hand and then destemmed. The grapes are macerated in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. Aging lasts about 18 months in our cooperage's barrels, about a third of which are new.

Tasting notes

The color is intense. The loose bouquet is inspired by wild blackberries, dry prunes and blackcurrants. Age will add musky looks to it. The flavors are generally tannic and have good flexibility. Pairings with veal rib, duck breast and rabbit rillettes.

Allen Meadows, April 2015 (Vintage 2013)

Here the nose is aromatically similar to that of the Fixin though there is more volume to the delicious and punchy medium weight flavors that possess fine intensity on the rustic, complex, lingering and balanced finish. This moderately structured effort is very Marsannay in character with its minerality and mild rusticity.

Pale ruby. Something quite agricultural about this on the nose. Then a good whack of fruit. Quite pretty and forward. Not much length but very correct.

William Kelly, January 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Aromas of rich blackberry and cassis fruit mingled with hints of licorice and peonies preface the 2020 Marsannay Clos du Roy (Domaine Gagey), a medium to full-bodied, lively wine with an ample core of fruit and youthfully chewy structuring tannins. This is a touch more tightly wound than its 2019 predecessor.
