About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values ​​of this family business. By developing the wine trade in the markets of northern Europe, he was already contributing to the reputation of Burgundy wines at the time. Product notes

A blend of the best plots located all around the amphitheater of Fuissé, this wine is the ambassador of this beautiful theater. Age of vines from 10 to 35 years old and clay-limestone soil.

Production notes

Taking place for 55% in stainless steel tanks and 45% in barrels. No new cask. Barrels of 1 to 4 wines. Bottling in November 2018, on a waning moon, fruit day.

Tasting notes

With a beautiful balance between roundness and freshness, all finesse thanks to a harmonious minerality. An expression of fruit all in subtle notes combining acacia flower, verbena, and fresh notes. A beautiful sap in the mouth, very balanced. Pairings with seafood, grilled fish and fresh goat or cow cheeses.

This wine is from east-facing vines behind Mme. Ferret’s house, and is thus called by the domaine ‘Clos de Jeanne’ although it is in premier cru Les Perrières. It delivers a substantial wine; here the cask ferment (20% new) is more apparent, yet it holds this will and shows approachably toasty ripe apple aromas. There is abundant extract here but the wine remains impressively fresh and lingers seductively on the finish

Neal Martin, August 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Pouilly-Fuisse Les Perrieres ter Cru, which comes from more clay soils, matured in 25% new oak, is finely-tuned on the nose, well-defined with citrus peel, yellow plum and light honeysuckle scents, a hint of chamomile emerging with time. The palate is well-balanced with a fine spine of acidity, one of more "nutty" cuv4es from Ferret with a fine touch of bitterness lending tension on the finish. Fine.

August 2021 (Vintage 2019)

The 2019 Pouilly-Fuissé bursts with aromas of pear, hazelnuts, white flowers, toasted almonds and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, bright and precise, with tangy acids and a nicely concentrated finish, it concludes with a gently oak-inflected finish. Louis Jadot acquired the Domaine J. A. Ferret, one of the historic reference points for the wines of Pouilly-Fuissé, in 2008. Madame Jeanne Ferret was one of Burgundy's great matriarchs, producing rich, concentrated wines that were harvested late and matured on the lees in oak barrels. Many of the wines produced under her tenure—and that of her daughter—are still drinking well today. Today, the style has changed; but the wines of Domaine Ferret are equally worthy of attention. Winemaker Audrey Braccini is producing fresher, brighter, earlier-harvested interpretations of Pouilly-Fuissé, and they're beautifully balanced, intense and engaging, clearly differentiated by site. The presence of new oak remains decidedly minimal at this address, though the wines see longer élevage on the lees. Braccini excels in warm vintages—witness her compelling 2015s—and so she has in 2019. Concentrated but incisive, everything reviewed here comes recommended, and as is so often the case, I found myself reflecting that this estate is one of the finest and most consistent addresses in the Mâconnais.

William Kelley, June 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Pouilly-Fuissé has turned out very well, wafting from the glass with notes of crisp Anjou pear, orange oil and toasted nuts. Medium to full-bodied, bright and precise, its elegantly textural attack segues into a tensile, racy mid-palate, concluding with a beautifully defined finish. It's a fine introduction to the Domaine Ferret range—and an excellent wine in its own right.

Aromas of ripe white orchard fruit and citrus zest introduce rich and nicely voluminous middle weight flavors that possess a succulent and mouth coating palate impression, all wrapped in a sneaky long if mildly warm finish. This should drink well relatively early yet also repay a few years of keeping.
