Product notes

Colline de l'Hermitage, one of the most beautiful vineyards in the world, this small stone house with blue shutters was once a haven of peace for our winegrowers. Made on the most eastern terroirs of the hill where the soils are deeper, less stony and less steep. Syrah vines 40 to 60 years old

Production notes

Manual harvest with sorting on the plot, in small crates. Vatting for about 4 weeks with gentle extraction. Aging in French oak barrels, 20% of which is new wood.

Tasting notes

Deep purple in color, aromas of cherry, liquorice, surf violet with spicy notes, incense and minerality with a smoky side. Succulent and penetrating on the palate, the wine is lively, full-bodied and supple at the same time with a round texture. Pairings with guinea fowl, duck and veal rib.

Joe Czerwinski, May 2021 (Vintage 2018)

Sourced from the eastern portion of the hillside, the 2018 Hermitage La Maison Bleue is earthy, welcoming and open with hints of crushed stone accenting red raspberries and vanilla. Full-bodied and lush, with a creamy texture, it's approachable young, yet still powerful, rich and long on the finish. I'd expect it to close down over the next couple of years, then reemerge and blossom after 2025 or so.

Josh Raynolds, April 2020 (Vintage 2018)

Inky violet color. Deeply pitched cherry, blueberry, licorice and candied violet aromas are complemented by hints of baking spices, incense and smoky minerals. Succulent and penetrating on the palate, offering deeply concentrated black/blue fruit, spice and floral pastille flavors that become more energetic as the wine slowly stretches out. Weighty and broad yet lively as well, finishing with sharp delineation, mounting tannins and outstanding, floral- and mineral-driven persistence

Joe Czerwinski, (Vintage 2020)

Mostly sourced from les Murets, the 2020 Hermitage La Maison Bleue is a solid effort, with appealing notes of blackberries, raspberries and espresso on the nose. It's full-bodied and rich, yet streamlined and focused, with savory tones of black olives appearing on the softly dusty finish. It should drink well young, yet age well for more than a decade.

James Suckling, April 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Although this youthful Hermitage features extremely ripe blueberry and blackberry aromas, plus the imposing depth you expect for this famous appellation, it is remarkably open for a red wine with this kind of stature, and it already flows gracefully over the palate. Although there are plenty of tannins, they are very fine and even at the finish, with a restrained feel. From 40 to 60-year-old syrah vines. From biodynamically grown grapes.
