About this winery

At the end of the 60’s, fifteen Cahors winemakers were involved in the AOP creation. Edouard, Lise and Benjamin great grand dad, was one of them. They obtained the AOP in 1971. The Château Lamartine is still very proud to belong to the appellation. The Cahors Appellation is located in the South-West of France; at the North from Toulouse and at the East from Bordeaux, exactly between the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Because of that, the appellation has a particular micro-climate...

Product notes

Old vines 40 to 60 years old on clay-limestone terroir (50%), clay-siliceous (30%) and (20%) cones of limestone scree – 2nd and 3rd terrace of the Lot Valley. Low yield of 40 Hl/ha.

Production notes

Traditional vinification and punching down, 30 days in stainless steel vats with temperature control at 30°C. The wine is then aged for 12 to 14 months: 50% in oak barrels (50 to 90 Hl) and 50% in barrels 1 to 3 years old.

Tasting notes

Opaque purplish red color. Quite powerful nose which opens with scents of blackberry, violet and roasting with scents of liquorice. It offers an almost oily texture that ends in a long finish and tannic structure. Pairings with duck confit

November 2023 (Vintage 2020)

With dense black-plum fruits and rich tannins, this is a full, spicy wine. It has a powerful core of structure with more than a year in wood. The wine is concentrated, ready to drink from 2025.

Kristen Bieler, (Vintage 2020)

Shows concentrated fruit purity, with red plum, raspberry puree and smoked meat cut through with a pronounced graphite beam. Silky and long, with smoky incense and fine-grained tannins lining the polished finish. Malbec and Tannat. Drink now through 2030.

17++ Points / 20 Points

Tamlyn Currin, April 2023 (Vintage 2020)

Notable intensity of fruit, acidity and tannins. Despite the youthful severity of the wine, it has depth and vibrant energy. The fruit is ripe and glowing, peppery, super-fresh and pure. The tannins are layered: velvet, oak bark, raw cement, gunpowder. This is packed with potential, and it may well be ready to drink earlier than the 2019.
