About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. Product notes

The Beaune vineyard, between Savigny les Beaune in the north and Pommard in the south, is the largest in the Côte de Beaune. No Grands Crus, but 36 Premiers Crus located almost entirely on the slope. The earth is light and stony, hence its name.

Production notes

The wines are in oak barrels in our cellars, and aged for 18 months.

Tasting notes

Ruby color towards notes of humus, undergrowth, cherry brandy and spices. Nice evolution especially as the material remains rich and gathered. Pairings with tuna tataki, wild boar burgers and charcuterie.

William Kelley, January 2022 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves (Domaine Gagey) is especially successful this year, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berry fruit, orange rind, peonies and rich spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and serious, with ripe tannins and lively acids. While it's appropriately youthfully structured, it doesn't display any of the austerity one sometimes finds in this particular bottling.

Neal Martin, November 2019 (Vintage 2020)

The 2020 Beaune Grèves 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet: very pure and refined, billowing red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit comingling with pressed rose petals. The terroir really comes through here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine bead of acidity, quite structured with a fresh, saline finish. There is a sense of completeness to this Beaune Grèves that I much appreciate.
