About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. It took Louis Henry Denis Jadot thirty years to found the House in 1859, and to establish the values of this family business. Product notes

The most recent A.O.C. of Burgundy (1987) promoted to the rank of communal appellation. Marsannay is the only village producing red, rosé and white wine. This vineyard is exposed to the East-South in the commune of Chenôve. The soils are dark brown, dry, of limestone-marl-clay composition, with pebbles and gravel favorable to good natural drainage. Le Clos du Roy is one of the climats strongly claimed as Premier Cru in the near future.

Production notes

The harvest is manual, carefully sorted by hand and then destemmed. The maceration of the grapes takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. The aging lasts about 18 months in the barrels of our cooperage, of which about a third are new.

Tasting notes

The color is intense. The loose bouquet is inspired by wild blackberry, dried prune and blackcurrant. Age will add musky touches to it. The flavors are generally tannic and endowed with a good flexibility. Pairings with veal chop, duck breast and rabbit rillettes.

William Kelly, January 2022 (Vintage 2020)

Aromas of rich blackberry and cassis fruit mingled with hints of licorice and peonies preface the 2020 Marsannay Clos du Roy (Domaine Gagey), a medium to full-bodied, lively wine with an ample core of fruit and youthfully chewy structuring tannins. This is a touch more tightly wound than its 2019 predecessor.
