About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. Product notes

The Santenay appellation is located south of the Côte de Beaune. The "en Gatsulards" vineyard is located opposite the Clos de Malte, slightly higher. The ground is very stony and steep, difficult to work. Oriented full South and has the particularity of heating up very quickly. It is also located in a very windy place.

Production notes

Manual harvest, sorted and destemmed. Aging for around 18 months in our cooperage's barrels, about a third of which are new.

Tasting notes

Deep color with garnet reflections. Open nose with aromas of blackcurrant, violet and undergrowth. The texture on the palate is generous, opulent, marked by aromas of wild strawberries and sour cherries, enhanced by silky tannins of impressive aromatic complexity. Nice freshness on the finish. Pair with grilled tuna, beef tartare and hard cheeses.

Aromas of ripe cherries, cassis and plums mingle with nuances of raw cocoa and toasty new oak, introducing the 2018 Santenay Clos des Gatsulards Monopole (Domaine Gagey), a medium to full-bodied, supple and rounded wine with an inviting core of fruit framed by velvety tannins. This will offer a broad drinking window

Neal Martin, January 2020 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Santenay Clos des Gatsulards has a fleshier bouquet than the Clos de Malte, offering more red fruit and more fruité. The palate is fleshy and supple with fine tannins, gentle grip and a judicious dash of black pepper on the finish. Thoroughly delicious.

The 2020 Santenay Clos des Gatsulards Monopole (Domaine Gagey) is a particular success, delivering aromas of raspberries, orange rind, petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vibrant, with velvety tannins and a nicely defined finish, it will offer a broad drinking window.

Allen Meadows, April 2017 (Vintage 2015)

There are enough wood and menthol characters to mention surrounding the slightly riper nose of red pinot fruit and earth aromas. There is a slightly finer texture to the medium-bodied flavors that also possess a seductive mouth feel, all wrapped in a rustic but concentrated and highly persistent finish.
