About this winery

When Silvio Nardi purchased the Casale del Bosco estate in 1950, Montalcino was a little, rural village, the powerful Consorzio del Vino Brunello wasn’t yet an idea, and Nardi was the first “foreigner” to invest in Montalcino (he was from Umbria). Today, Montalcino is a renowned wine community with many international investors, and the 36 vineyard plots of Tenute Silvio Nardi extend east and west of the town on three separate estates. Product notes

Manachiara vineyard located in the municipality of Montalcino with a south-east exposure at approximately 300 m a.s.l. Sands rich in quartz and Pliocene clays

Production notes

Fermentation and maceration for at least 22 days at a controlled temperature of 28/30°C. Maturation for 18 months in French oak barriques (Allier), followed by 12 months in large SLAVONIAN oak barrels. Subsequent aging in bottles for 2 YEARS

Tasting notes

Intense, deep ruby red colour with slight garnet highlights. Clean, intense and complex AROMAs with hints of ripe fruit, accompanied by floral notes, enhanced with a delicate spicy component. On the palate it shows a mellow first impact, continuing with a stEAdy evolution, supported by the right degree of acidity. Great structure, supple, sweet and enveloping tannins, very good length. An excellent wine to lay down Paring with BBQ and Meats

James Suckling, December 2022 (Vintage 2018)

Polished and perfumed nose of hazelnuts, chocolate strawberries, sage, cherries and Spanish cedar. Firm and structured, with a full body enveloping just-ripe fruit and chocolate. All balanced by bright acidity. Refined. This would score even higher with a longer finish, but fantastic nonetheless.

Danielle Callegari, November 2023 (Vintage 2018)

The nose mixes sweetness with umami, as vanilla and dark berries play with soil and mushrooms. On the palate, the berries and soil continue their game, while a stony herbaceousness watches from the shadows before a comforting, warm finish of bitter, spicy chocolate.

Monica Larner, March 2023 (Vintage 2018)

Packaged with a blue wax capsule and a chunky glass bottle, the Tenute Silvio Nardi 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara opens to an inky dark appearance. The very first thing I noticed is the high alcohol content of the wine, measured here at 15.5%, which proves a distraction. The fruit is rich and concentrated, and there is a lot of oak spice and toast at the back. The tannins are dry

Walter Speller, November 2022 (Vintage 2018)

Impenetrable, dark, maturing ruby with narrow, bricky rim. Deep, balsamic nose with hints of dried fruit, but not without complexity. Intense and ripe and with dried-fruit notes on the palate but, notwithstanding this, it is not ready yet. (WS)
