About this winery

When Silvio Nardi purchased the Casale del Bosco estate in 1950, Montalcino was a little, rural village, the powerful Consorzio del Vino Brunello wasn’t yet an idea, and Nardi was the first “foreigner” to invest in Montalcino (he was from Umbria). Today, Montalcino is a renowned wine community with many international investors, and the 36 vineyard plots of Tenute Silvio Nardi extend east and west of the town on three separate estates. Since 1990, Silvio Nardi’s youngest daughter, Emilia...

Product notes

Poggio Doria vineyard located in North-West side of Montalcino with South/West/North-West exposure at approximately 260 m a.s.l. Jasper, sand and clay

Production notes

Fermentation and maceration for at least 26 days, at a controlled temperature of < 30°C. Maturation for 18 months in new and used French oak TONNEAU (Allier), followed by 12 months in large oak barrels from Slavonia. Then bottle aged for at least 36 months

Tasting notes

Ruby red color with garnet highlights. Ample and highly complex flavors at the nose develop then to mineral notes of graphite, fruity tones of red berries and spicy aromas of clove and vanilla. Long and balanced at the palate, smooth and persistent notes bring to the elegant end characterized by present and velvety tannins

Monica Larner, December 2023 (Vintage 2019)

The Tenute Silvio Nardi 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Poggio Doria is a dark wine, certainly in character, but also in appearance and flavor profile compared to the estate's village bottling. Surrounded by forest but with a wide panorama and plenty of light, Poggio Doria has a hearty mix of sand and clay soils that help to solidify the freshness and the savory aromas of the wine. This vintage is especially bold and concrete with black plum, crushed stone and a hint of something gamey like vintage suede or leather. The 15% alcohol content is evident in this wine, but you also get more overall complexity and depth with big bones and considerable structure for aging. This is a 3,500-bottle release.

Bruce Sanderson, May 2024 (Vintage 2019)

A round, rich version, with cherry, plum, leather and spice aromas and flavors. Tips toward the tannins in the end, where they exert themselves on the finish, yet the lasting impression is of sweet fruit and mineral, so be patient.

Walter Speller, October 2023 (Vintage 2019)

Very dark, maturing ruby with bricky rim. Rich and very ripe and deep on the nose. Bags of sappy cherry on the palate followed by grainy tannins. It seems already a little developed, while the tannins suggest it needs more time. (WS)
