About this winery

Located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany, Castello di Brolio is the historic cradle of the Ricasoli family, active in viticulture since 1141, making it Italy's oldest winery. The visionary Bettino Ricasoli was behind the original Chianti Classico formula, created in 1872. Since 1993, Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of the estate with passion, breathing new life into it through an approach combining respect for tradition, technical innovation and a scientific approach....

Product notes

This label is dedicated to Bettino Ricasoli, who in 1872 created the Chianti production formula. President of the Council of Unified Italy in 1861 and 1866, he was also the founder of the newspaper "La Nazione," an agricultural experimenter, and the "father" of the first rules for the production (disciplinare) of Chianti. In making this wine, we have tried to interpret his will, working on the elements that most remind us of the style of his time.

Production notes

Aging: 18 months in barrels, followed by static decanting and a minimum aging of 3 months in bottle.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red color, with pronounced notes of red fruits and iris (giaggiolo) on the nose. On the palate, it is smooth and balanced. A structured and elegant wine. Pairs well with game meats.

Bruce Sanderson, October 2024 (Vintage 2021)

There's a beautiful expression of fruit in this well-defined red, revealing cherry, pomegranate, earth and iron notes, with a hint of Tuscan scrub. Verges on rich yet is underscored by vibrant acidity and refined tannins. Shows terrific balance and length. Best from 2026 through 2043

James Suckling, August 2025 (Vintage 2022)

A lively wine that’s tense and youthful. Vibrant nose of potpourri, prunes and orange peel. Fresh and crunchy on the palate, with firm, chalky tannins, good suppleness, a medium body and a very savory licorice finish. Drink or hold.
