About this winery

Located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany, Castello di Brolio is the historic cradle of the Ricasoli family, active in viticulture since 1141, making it Italy's oldest winery. The visionary Bettino Ricasoli was behind the original Chianti Classico formula, created in 1872. Since 1993, Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of the estate with passion, breathing new life into it through an approach combining respect for tradition, technical innovation and a scientific approach....

Product notes

The vineyards lie on the five most representative soils in Brolio: Macigno del Chianti (sandstone), Scaglia Toscana (galestro), Monte Morello (Alberese), Marine Deposit (sandy deposits and clay at deeper levels) and Ancient Fluvial Terrace (silty deposits with clay).

Production notes

Fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 24°C-27°C (75.2°-80.6°F) with 14-16 days of skin contact. Ageing : 21 months in tonneaux and large casks with 3 to 6 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes

This one is ripe and layered, with red fruit, chestnut, floral notes, cedar and a fresh, food-friendly acidity. Pair this classic with another: try a Tuscan slow-simmered ragu al chingiale, or your favourite meaty pasta.

July 2024 (Vintage 2021)

A composed, poise and seductive riserva with aromas of cherries, dried herbs and dried flowers. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Juicy and charming, with a velvety core of succulent cherries and berries at the center and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold.
