About this winery
Located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany, Castello di Brolio is the historic cradle of the Ricasoli family, active in viticulture since 1141, making it Italy's oldest winery. The visionary Bettino Ricasoli was behind the original Chianti Classico formula, created in 1872. Since 1993, Francesco Ricasoli has been at the helm of the estate with passion, breathing new life into it through an approach combining respect for tradition, technical innovation and a scientific approach....

Product notes
Casalferro is a selection of Merlot grapes from three different vineyards: Vigna Casalferro, Vigna Pecchierino and Vigna Sodacci. Vigna Casalferro: Arenarie (sand and rocks), Alberese (limestone). 5 hectares at 400 meters altitude. Vigna Pecchierino: Alberese (limestone). 3.25 hectares at 400 meters altitude. Vigna Sodacci: Arenarie (sand and rocks). 4.22 hectares at 500 meters altitude.
Production notes
The Merlot grapes were harvested by hand from September 15th for the Pecchierino vineyard, September 16th for the Sodacci vineyard and, finally, for the Casalferro vineyard on September 18th. Aged for 21 months in barrels and barriques, 30% of which are new oak and the remaining 70% are second and third passages.
Tasting notes
This single-varietal Merlot is distinguished by its mineral and spicy notes that precede the black and red fruit notes. Young, rich, and powerful, it stands the test of time. Pairs well with red meats.
