About this winery

Since 1934 this Château has produced its own bottles and the Devillard family is in its 5th generation of wine growers passionate about grapes and wine. Located in Mercurey in the greater Burgundy region, the 37 hectare vineyard benefits from all the typical attributes of the region, which the Devillards combine with rigorous vinification, always waiting for the maximum maturity of the fruits before starting their work.

Product notes

The Mission is a parcel held in monopoly. The vines were planted in 1961 for the oldest and in 1997 for the youngest. East exposure on a rocky and limestone terrace located just above the Premier Cru “Clos du Roi”.

Production notes

The grapes are harvested by hand, sorted and fully pressed. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in oak barrels. After fermentation, aging is complete after 14 months. It is made 50% in 400 liter oak barrels and 50% in 228 liter oak barrels including 25% new barrels then for 3 months in stainless steel vats.

Tasting notes

Beautiful golden color with pretty shiny reflections. The nose is intense and expressive. The wine develops mineral notes but also fruity (lychee, pineapple) and floral (bergamot) notes. The wine presents a perfect balance between acidity and roundness. Beautiful aromatic persistence. Pairing with seafood, lobster and cheese risotto.

Allen Meadows, October 2022 (Vintage 2021)

More subtle wood influence is present on the overtly exotic aromas of passion fruit, lychee and dried apricot. The very seductive, even lavishly rich, medium-bodied flavors possess good power on the dry and citrusy if slightly edgy finish. This may well round out but today it's a bit awkward.
