About this winery

The Château de Fuissé, built in the heart of its eponymous village in the 16th century, has belonged to the Vincent family for 5 generations. Claude Bulland acquired the estate in 1862 for the production of wine, then in 1922, Jacques Vincent-Bulland became one of the co-founders of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Product notes

"Le Clos" Château-Fuissé, a monopole (2.7 ha), is a legendary plot surrounding the Château de Fuissé. Its succession of clay-limestone layers gives it its unique geological character. This southeast-facing plot, where the average age of the vines exceeds 50 years, produces a wine of remarkable complexity, placing it among the greatest of Burgundy. Production is limited to fewer than 500 cases per year.

Production notes

The Clos is fermented in oak barrels and aged in the cool cellars beneath the château for 12 months. 80% of the barrels are new. The wine is then transferred to a state-of-the-art winemaking facility for clarification and bottling. Quantities are limited to fewer than 500 cases per year.

Tasting notes

A persistent yellow robe opens with aromas of ripe apples, pears, and spices with a touch of oak. This is a rich wine, with expressive aromas and extraordinary finesse. The finish is driven by minerality with a firm and striking acidity. Pairs well with scallops, sweetbreads, and firm pasta.

Neal Martin, June 2025 (Vintage 2023)

The 2023 Pouilly-Fuissé Le Clos 1er Cru is more closed on the nose compared to the Les Brulés, though well defined and just requiring more time in bottle. The palate is well balanced with a touch of mint and white pepper on the entry. Light in grip but with fine body and depth, this fans out with a little more chutzpah than the Les Brulés on the finish. Very promising.
