About this winery

Located in Bégadan, north of the Médoc appellation and close to the Gironde, La Tour de By has very ancient roots. From the 16th century, vines have been cultivated at La Tour de By and the Château's known origin dates back to 1599, when it was acquired by Pierre Tizon, lord of the fief of By. Product notes

Since 1980, the operation has given priority to ecological methods and the management of diseases and parasites.

Production notes

Aging in stave oak barrels (30% new) for 16 months in the half-buried aging cellar.

Tasting notes

Intense garnet color, this wine opens with a deep nose of candied black fruits and aging notes reminiscent of toasted wood. We feel an opulent and tasty tannic structure. Pairings with bordelaise flank steak, duck breast and mushroom risotto.

Roger Voss, April 2021 (Vintage 2018)

The structured Cabernet Sauvignon in this ripe wine gives attractive black-currant flavors and a core of tannins that will allow it to age. It is a great food wine: fruity, structured and sure to age well. Drink from 2024.

Julia Harding, February 2021 (Vintage 2018)

Deep cherry red. Fresh aroma of cedar and cassis, plus the sweetness of oak spice, very slightly herbaceous but in a good way. On the palate, powerful, dry, chewy and slightly hot on the finish but otherwise well balanced between fruit and structure. A big wine with big tannins and just brought down a little by the heat of the alcohol.
