About this winery

Located in Bégadan, north of the Médoc appellation and close to the Gironde, La Tour de By has very ancient roots. From the 16th century, vines have been cultivated at La Tour de By and the Château's known origin dates back to 1599, when it was acquired by Pierre Tizon, lord of the fief of By. Product notes

This cuvée was created in 1982 by Marc Pagès and Emile Peynaud under the name of "Prestige" cuvée. It has been renamed "Heritage Marc Pagès" in homage to Marc Pagès who died in 2007. The vineyards occupy the highest altitude north of Pauillac above the Saint-Estèphe appellation.

Production notes

The carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot come from the best vines over 60 years old. Vinified in wooden vats and aged for 18 months in oak barrels. The wine, very elegant, can compete with many of the Grands Crus Classés of Médoc. Annual production is limited to 3000 bottles only.

Tasting notes

Ruby and brilliant color. The bouquet is intense with ripe fruits such as blackcurrant and cherry with hints of pepper. Round and fleshy carried by well-wrapped tannins showing power and delicacy. Pair with Beef rib with truffles, pan-fried foie gras and mushroom risotto.

James Suckling, January 2022 (Vintage 2019)

Sweet berries and cherries with some violet and rose undertones. It’s full-bodied with chewy, polished tannins that leave a long impression on the finish. This needs time to soften. Cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Try after 2024.
