About this winery

The culture of the vine has been practiced in Alsace for more than 2000 years. We find traces of the first Hugels in Alsace as early as the 15th century, and some two centuries later, Hans Ulrich Hugel settled in Riquewihr in 1639 and took the head of the powerful Corporation des Vignerons. Product notes

It is the emblematic grape of Alsace. Aromatic and powerful, it is distinguished by its floral, fruity and spicy notes with oriental accents. The family has been recognized for generations for the finesse of its delicately expressed Gewurztraminers. Originally from northern Italy, it is the emblematic grape of our region, slowly maturing with cool nights, giving it all its expression.

Production notes

The grapes are transported to the pneumatic presses by gravity, without pumping. After static settling, the musts are transferred to tuns or vats where fermentation will take place. A single racking before winter where the wine clarifies naturally without artificial cold treatment. Light gentle filtration before bottling in spring then aging in bottles in our cellars.

Tasting notes

Beautiful young light green color. Fruity and floral with just a spicy undertone of cardamom, ginger, mango, rose and jasmine. Superb elegance, harmony, smoothness, with a final bouquet full of charm and air. Agreements with exotic cuisines combining sweet and sour, sweet and savory and various spices.

James Suckling, April 2023 (Vintage 2019)

I love the extrovert wealth of orange aromas ranging from blossoms to zest and candied peel. Wonderful balance of fruit, fine tannins and enough acidity to keep this lively. Wonderful creamy texture at the long supple finish. Drink or hold.
