About this winery

It was with the acquisition of Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules that the history of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826. Product notes

In the heart of the village of Fuissé, this Clos of just over 2 hectares is on a very slight slope facing east. The most recent small plot was planted in 2003 but the most important part of this vineyard dates from 1956, so over 60 years ago, making it one of the oldest vines on the estate. Soil made from very calcareous marl from the Upper Bathonian.

Production notes

Fermentation and aging take place in barrels including 20% new barrels, 80% barrels of 1 to 3 wines for 10 months. Aging in stainless steel vats on fine lees for 7 months.

Tasting notes

This wine is very mineral, with aromas of limestone, but also of fresh fruit, which is found in the mouth, a ripe juice, fullness, smoothness, a light toasted oak, power and voltage. Pairings with snail puff pastry, veal chop in sauce and goat cheese.

Neil Martin, June 2023 (Vintage 2022)

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Prouges is the anomalous non-Premier Cru due to a lack of historical credentials according to the INAO, though the Domaine treats it equally. It has a pretty nose with red apples, almonds and crushed stones, with hints of praline in the background. Fine delineation. The palate is medium bodied with quite a concentrated opening. Again, it leans towards the richer style of Pouilly-Fuissé with impressive depth on the finish, though I'd like just a little more nerve to come through. Still, this is delicious.

Allen Meadows, August 2023 (Vintage 2022)

Slightly riper yet still fresh aromas offer up notes of exotic tea, spice, pear liqueur and slightly more prominent wood. As is usually the case, there is better volume to the more energetic medium weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the balanced, long and delicious finale. This could use better depth but the potential to develop it certainly appears to be present.
