Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cuvée
2018
The Château de Fuissé, built in the heart of its eponymous village in the 16th century, has belonged to the Vincent family for 5 generations. Claude Bulland acquired the estate in 1862 for the production of wine, then in 1922, Jacques Vincent-Bulland became one of the co-founders of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Each generation has set its own milestone, which today ensures international recognition of the quality of Château Fuissé products. In 1948, it was Marcel Vincent's turn to...

This wine is a blend of around twenty “Climats” (around 40 plots): the development and composition of POUILLY-FUISSE Château-Fuissé “Tête de Cuvée” is based on the taste and structural complementarity of the different terroirs of Pouilly- Fuissé and reflects the geological diversity of the appellation.
The vinification, in oak barrels (60%) and in vats (40%), is chosen according to the character of each plot. The clay-limestone soils give the wines a distinctive character, balanced both mineral and complex.
A high-ranking nectar! Simply ! Almonds, hazelnuts, white flowers, a buttery, creamy and mineral side ... What complexity and what a palette of flavors !!! It is superbly done and with such precision. At the price of a village appellation, you will find a bottle worthy of a Grand Cru! Treat yourself with Sweetbread, Salmon Tartare and Scallops

Slightly flinty nose with honeydew, apricot and white peach and floral notes. Intense lemon and mineral notes with floral highlights feature in a clean, delicate and long palate.

There is just enough wood present to warrant mentioning framing the ripe and elegant aromas of mostly white orchard fruit and acacia blossom. The pure, delicious and generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors possess very good verve on the notably saline, clean and dry finish.

Delicate and charming, the 2018 Pouilly-Fuissé Tête de Cru offers up pretty aromas of honeyed orchard fruit and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and open-knit, with succulent acids and a seamless, nicely integrated profile, it avoids some of the extremes of the domaine's grander cuvées this year.

Here too a more restrained nose is ripe but cool with its fresh aromas of pear, apple, tangerine and lemon-lime nuances. There is better richness to the slightly bigger and more concentrated medium-bodied flavors that deliver solid length on the saline-inflected, clean and dry finish. This delicious effort will need to develop better depth to merit the upper end of my projected range.

Discreet wood sets off ripe yet cool aromas of citrus confit, floral nuances and crushed fennel. The rich, concentrated and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a balanced, clean and youthfully austere finale that is shaped by bright lemon-tinged acidity.

Discreet though still easily discernible wood influence surrounds the fresh and more elegant aromas of mostly white orchard fruit and just grated lemon zest. There is impressive volume and mid-palate density to the sappy and solidly powerful medium weight flavors terminate in a citrus-tinged finale. This is quite good and worth considering.
