Cune Rioja Gran Reserva
2017
$28.45
Founded in 1879 by the brothers Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asua, the Compañia Vinicola del Norte de España is one of the oldest estates in La Rioja. C.V.N.E. is located in Haro, in the traditional wine trade district, next to the train station. In this period when transport was not very advanced, there was a definite advantage in locating your cellar very close to a train station! By 1900, this company had more than 80,000 bottles intended for prolonged aging, which was rare at that time...

The Cune Gran Reserva is made from grapes from the vineyards of Rioja Alta. This region is characterized by clay-limestone soils and a continental and Mediterranean climate. Manual harvest.
The grapes of Cune Gran Reserva are destemmed and crushed. Aging takes place in American and French oak barrels for 24 months. The wine is then refined in the bottle for 36 months.
Garnet color with brilliant intensity. Aromas of berries and liquorice complemented by spices, vanilla and a roasted touch. The palate is suave with silky tannins that lead to a lingering finish. Pairings with riojana patatas, veal kidneys and lamb.
Very classic character to this with toasted oak, hints of consomme, meat and dried lemon. Medium body with crisp, firm tannins. Drink or hold.
See detailed press reviewThe 2017 Cune Gran Reserva comes from a very challenging year marked by frost and a dry and warm end of the season, but it shows very good freshness and youth, transcending the adverse conditions of the year. It's a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo with good ripeness and 14% alcohol; it's approachable and affordable with a mix of developed and fruit-driven characteristics. It matured in oak barrels for 24 months, and the oak is neatly folded into the wine. Great effort for the vintage. 175,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2020.
