About this winery

André-Michel Pierlot moved to Tours-sur-Marne in 1812 as a Champagne wine merchant. It was in the village, on the plots called Les Plaisances and La Tour Glorieux that he founded what would become Maison Laurent-Perrier. His son Alphonse will succeed him, but the latter having no descendants, he will pass the estate on to his cellar master Eugène Laurent. Product notes

The evolution of the general taste towards less sweet wines and consumption as an aperitif have led to the generalization of brut champagnes, but many amateurs continue to appreciate the subtlety of the pleasures of the past that Demi-Sec represents. Harmony is a round and delicate wine thanks to a high proportion of Chardonnay and a balanced dosage.

Production notes

More than 55 Crus go into its composition. Dosage: 40g / L. The wine is dosed with a liqueur composed of cane sugar and wine from the same vintage. Aging: 3 years.

Tasting notes

Bright and elegant robe of golden yellow color, quite sustained. An intense and rich nose with notes of dried fruits, almonds and hazelnuts, as well as toasted aromas. After a few years of aging, the nose evolves towards rich nuances of honey and pine sap. An ample and generous wine. A warm and rich palate dominated by roundness. Pairings with parsley-type cheeses, Asian and Indian cuisine and desserts such as millefeuille.

A rather puzzling judgement call, I thought, to show the Demi-Sec after the Brut NV and before the Ultra Brut. I'm not sure it helped the Demi-Sec or the Ultra Brut. 45% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier. RS 40 g/l. A fraction more colour than La Cuvée. Smells of warm crème anglaise, brioche and peaches. Not awfully sweet tasting, considering all that residual sugar. Loosely woven. Biscuits and nectarines and late-harvest apples. Very appley and easy. But I'm not sure this is sweet enough for dessert. Possibly with fresh strawberries and a spoonful of mascarpone?
