André-Michel Pierlot moved to Tours-sur-Marne in 1812 as a Champagne wine merchant. It was in the village, on the plots called Les Plaisances and La Tour Glorieux that he founded what would become Maison Laurent-Perrier. His son Alphonse will succeed him, but the latter having no descendants, he will pass the estate on to his cellar master Eugène Laurent. When Eugène Laurent died prematurely in 1887, his widow, Mathilde Émilie Perrier took over the reins of the company and added his surname, to give the House the name of Veuve Laurent-Perrier. Eugénie-Hortense Laurent succeeded her mother, but sold the estate in 1939 to Marie-Louise de Nonancourt, whose son Bernard would forever influence Laurent-Perrier. Driven by a passion for champagne, respect for traditional values and above all for men, Bernard de Nonancourt infuses Laurent-Perrier with independence of mind and creative daring. Under the leadership of Eugène Laurent, the estate is developing by acquiring several vineyards located on the best terroirs: Bouzy, Tours-Sur-Marne, Ambonnay. He also had 800 meters of cellars dug and set up a tasting laboratory. Tours-sur-Marne is ideally located at the crossroads of the three main wine-growing regions of the Marne, the Montagne de Reims, the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs, and is one of the 17 communes classified Grand Cru in Champagne. But it was Bernard de Nonancourt who created the Laurent-Perrier style from Pinot noir and Chardonnay: freshness, finesse and elegance, he developed a unique range of champagnes which were exported to 147 countries. He gave birth to a range of unique wines, each with its own history and style. The key to this success is a maxim that he likes to remind his employees every day: "The quality of the people, the quality of the wines."
