About this winery

The history of the House of Schoröder & Schÿler has very ancient origins. We are in fact at the heart of the Seven Years' War where France opposed England from 1756 to 1763. Trade between France and the Antilles begins to become complicated; this is why Schröder & Schÿler decides to buy a frigate to continue to supply spices, indigo and other products. The story continues and the problems show no sign of abating. Passing through during the storming of the Bastille at the time of the French...

Product notes

The Château takes its name from its location on the Cos hill and from François Labory, its owner until 1845. In 2023, Michel Reybier and his family began a new chapter in the history of Château Cos Labory, a Fifth Growth Classified in 1855, located in Saint-Estèphe. This initiative, rooted in a heritage perspective, pays tribute to Louis Gaspard d’Estournel, who himself acquired the property in 1847.

Production notes

Château Cos Labory's vinification involves using stainless steel vats for low-temperature fermentation to preserve fruit, followed by aging in a combination of 40-50% new French and American oak barrels for 12-18 months.

Tasting notes

Notes of dark fruit (blackcurrant, prune), aromas of tobacco and coffee, and an elegant structure. The palate is described as balanced and full, with firm yet fine tannins, leading to a lingering finish. Parring with Cote de Boeuf

Lisa Perrotti-Brown, March 2021 (Vintage 2018)

The 2018 Cos Labory has a deep garnet-purple color, bursting from the glass with bold notes of warm cassis, blackberry compote and Morello cherries, plus suggestions of roses, unsmoked cigars and tree bark. The medium-bodied palate has a very sturdy frame of firm, grainy tannins and tons of freshness supporting the rather delicately played fruit, finishing long and earthy/minerally. The structure stands out a little now, which I enjoy, but for those preferring softer, rounder expressions, give this a good 3-5 years in the cellar and drink it over the next 15-20 years.

 Wine Enthusiast

Roger Voss, May 2021 (Vintage 2018)

The Audoy family has produced a structured wine, dense with tannins and backed by dark plum and berry fruits. It is rich, with a good future ahead of it, textured with richness as well as initial dryness. Drink the wine from 2026.

Jancis Robinson, January 2022 (Vintage 2018)

Tasted blind. Fragrant and lifted. Sweet start. Easy and with some recognisably St-Estèphe minerality. Quite long.
