In 1757, vines were already planted in Romaneira, a name inspired by the abundance of rosemary in this magnificent and warm region bordering the Douro. A wine from the estate was auctioned off by the famous Christie's house in 1872, an indication of the status that the name Romaneira had acquired over the years! Production notes

Quinta da Romaneira Reserva is a red wine produced from the best red grape vineyards of Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca from Quinta da Romaneira in the Douro wine region. After light crushing and total destemming, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. After this process, the wine was transferred to new French oak barrels, where it stayed for 14 months before being bottled.

Tasting notes

Quinta da Romaneira Reserva is a red wine that expresses all its subtlety and irreverent elegance, presenting an intense and sweet aromatic bouquet, where it displays ripe red fruits, black fruits, hints of pine nuts, balsamic aromas and very acidity. polite. Pairings with grilled meats and stews.

Roger Voss, May 2021 (Vintage 2018)

This powerful wine shows the structure and richness possible from this fine quinta. From selected fruit, the wine has dense black plum and berry fruits, dark tannins and serious aging potential. Drink this impressive wine from 2024.

Julia Harding, January 2021 (Vintage 2018)

Deep, dark cherry colour, like black-cherry skins, with purple rim. Smoky, dusty, Douro-like character infusing the black fruit. A touch of smoky reduction, perhaps. It is marked by the oak at the moment but the tannins are super-fine. The charry savour doesn’t overpower the fruit but this needs patience. Embryonic elegance enhanced by a slight herbal freshness on the finish, even though it is fully ripe – as if there had been a small whole-bunch component. Very good balance suggests an ageworthy wine. (JH)
